The dental bonding procedure utilizes a composite resin and is used for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Composite resin can be used to restore a chipped or broken tooth, fill in gaps or spaces, or reshape or recolor a tooth.

A thin coating of plastic material is placed on the tooth first and then a bonding material (composite resin) is placed and sculpted to provide a pleasing result. A high intensity light is used to harden the plastic and then the surface is finely polished.
